Bing’s sign: Explained

It is an alternative test for eliciting plantar reflex
This sign is named after Paul Robert Bing.
How to elicit bing sign?
Multiple pinpricks are given on the dorsolateral surface of the foot with a pin causes extension of the great toe.


Clinical significance

  • Bing sign is seen in patients with upper motor neuron lesion of the lower limbs.
  • It is one of a number of Babinski-like responses.
