Significance of palpation of precordium is given below
  • To confirm inspection findings
  • Palpation of apex beat
  • Left parasternal heave
  • Pulsation - Pulmonary area and other intercostal spaces
  • Thrill and shocks of heart sounds
  • Position of Trachea.
General rule 
  • The fingertips are used to feel pulsations,
  • The base of fingers for thrills and hand base for heaves.
  • Ideal position is supine or upper trunk elevated to 30°.
