Cornell sign: It is alternative to Babinski sign
Method of elicitation?
The dorsum of the foot is scratched along the inner side of the extensor tendon of the great toe.
Response is extension of great toe and fanning out of the other toes.
Clinical significance
  • It is a sign of pyramidal tract disease
  • These reflexes show a positive Babinski response when the reflexogenic area spreads up in the lower limb.
  • They may be useful in eliciting the Babinski response when the patients are uncooperative or in patients whose soles are extremely sensitive
