- Infancy (up to 1 year of age)
- Deep sleep
- Deep anaesthesia
- Narcotic overdose
- Alcohol intoxication
- Following electroconvulsive therapy
- Coma secondary to metabolic disturbances
- Post-traumatic states
- Post-ictal state
- In Cheyne-Stokes respiration, the extensor response may appear during the period of apnoea, whereas in the phase of active respiration the normal reflex is seen.
