For any abdominal mass the following should be assessed
- Site : The region involved
- Size which must be measured, and shape
- Surface—Regular / irregular
- Edge — Regular / irregular
- Consistency - Soft / firm/ hard
- Mobility and movement with inspiration
- Free movement or restricted movement or no movement
- Whether it is pulsatile or not
- Whether one can get above / below the mass
- Bimanually palpable and ballotable
