What are the causes of Acute Dyspnea?

Severe dyspnea at rest is seen in patients with

  • Acute leftventricular failure
  • ARDS
  • Acute exacerbation of asthma
  • COPD
  • Tension pneumothorax
  • Massive pleural effusion
  • Upper respiratory obstruction due to laryngeal edema/ angioedema
  • Massive pulmonary embolism
  • Foreign body in respiratory tract, irritant gas inhalation.
