Anorexia means loss of appetite
Appetite is the pleasurable desire to eat
Hunger is the unpleasant sensation produced by the empty stomach and its peristaltic contraction
Satiety is the feeling of satisfaction after the intake of food
Early satiety is the feeling of fullness of stomach even before the required quantity of food is taken.
Causes of anorexia are the following
Alimentary causes
Upper Gastrointestinal causes - Gastritis, carinoma of stomach, dyspepsia etc.
Hepatic causes
Acute hepatocellular disease Viral hepatitis
Chronic hepatocellular disease – Cirrhosis liver,Hepatocellular failure
Extra-alimentary causes of anorexia
Congestive heart failure
Uraemia
Chronic Respiratory diseases
Endocrine causes
